Teacher 2020-2021 Tired!
Hey teachers! Does this look like any of you at any point this year? Looking half exhausted and half zombielike? 😳 No, I did not turn to alcohol every day, if you are wondering by the bottle sitting next to me.
I'm more of a coffee girl, even when I want to relax. Is that completely off the wall? I drink coffee to relax?
What can I say? I'm an odd duck.
Anyhow, let me refocus on my topic of being a truly tired teacher this year. In all the years that I have been teaching, this is the first year that I have literally come home and looked pretty similar to a walking zombie. No joking my peeps.

I think my husband can testify to my craziness. Hey, at least he is still alive. He survived my zombie year and lives to tell the tale of the truly tired, often zombie like, teacher wife. LOL!
On a serious note, I took naps this year! Never have I been a napper and let me tell you, I had many naps. I even napped so hard one day and woke up at 7:40 pm thinking I was late to work. I texted my entire team to please make sure the kids got off the bus safely only to find out it was still the same day. OMG!! There were also days where I came home feeling like I had gone for a long swim. I wonder if any of you have felt the Teacher 2020-2021 tired I felt this year? I am assuming so. I'd love to hear some stories from my teacher peeps.
Despite the half zombie/half asleep mode I drifted in and out of this year, I have to say it was an overall good year. And, you know what? A lot of it is because of the students. They are so resilient and thoughtful, resourceful, and plain fun. I truly have to give them credit for all they have been through. For the amount of stress they have been through, they handled it like champs.
That being said, I was still more tired this year it seems and I think it was because of the mental strain of all the plates we had to juggle. But, things are getting so much better and I feel like we are nearing the finish line and reaching some small semblance of normalcy. I don't know if, as educators, we will ever be the same, but I do believe we have come out of this horrible moment in our lives better and more appreciative of the life that we have been given.
As some of us close off the year next week, it is going to be hard to say goodbye to my colleagues and my amazing students. I will miss them all this summer. However, I know we are given this time to rest and rejuvenate so that we can come back strong and ready to change lives in 2021-2022.
So, to the teachers out there, take this summertime to truly live you life, give yourself grace, and find the time to thank yourself for all your efforts this past year. We did it. We are probably going to be in the history books for going through one of the most insane years in education. I believe we did it well.
Now, let us get this summer party started. Make a list of things you must do this summer. Try something you have never done before. Take some risks, love deeply, and most importantly, be you for you! Don't let anyone else write your story.
Like I tell my students at the end of each day;
Peace & Love!
