Embracing Dreams at Any Age

My Journey of Passion, Persistence, and Poetic Pursuits In a world that often places restrictions based on age, is one of grit and determination and belief that there are no boundaries when it comes to the pursuit of your dreams.

I'm Melanie, and at 49, I'd like to think that I am breaking through the mold, proving that the pursuit of dreams is a timeless journey. With years spent shaping young minds as a teacher, my story takes a courageous turn before the pandemic hit us all. Fortunately, I decided to dive into the realm of electronic digital activities for learners. A push from a friend led me to creating digital boom cards and it was a life saver as I navigated the online teaching platform. Seeing that I was able to teach myself how to create digital activities, I thought,  "What else can I do?" That is when I pulled out my journal of old poetry I had written and decided that I wanted to publish my thoughts, my insights and my own cultural perspectives through my series, "A Chicana's Lens."

I acknowledge the occasional self-doubt that creeps in, questioning my abilities. Yet, I push forward with unwavering determination because, as I rightly believe, it's the only way to grow. My poetry books become a testament to resilience, a beautiful reflection of overcoming those moments of uncertainty. In "A Chicana's Lens," I try to capture simplicity, while recognizing that not every work resonates with everyone. It's a celebration of individuality and my culture, understanding that my creations may not be universally embraced, and that's perfectly fine. It's about forging connections with those who find connections, inspiration, or joy in my words.

I want my life's journey to emphasize a powerful message: age should never be a barrier to reinvention. It's a call to discard fear, to step into uncharted territories, and to believe in oneself fiercely. I encourage us all to silence the noise of external opinions and chart our own course, driven by the beat of our hearts. Regardless of the path chosen, success is a blend of hard work, time, and an unshakable belief in oneself.

I hope that young women read this post and decide to take a leap of faith on their dreams. I want them to not wait until they are 49 to take risks and to find the love within themselves, for at the end of the day, we all have to pursue our own happiness by placing ourselves first. It is essential and although I regret that I started this journey later in life, perhaps I had to overcome my early barriers to get to this point. So, no matter the age, just get to where you need to be! You got this.

May my words resonate as a beacon of inspiration, reminding all that dreams are not confined by a number or ethnicity—they are bound only by the limits we place upon ourselves. So, here's to everyone embracing the untapped potential within. Lets all be inspired to chase our dreams, no matter the age, and find the strength to create our unique stories. After all, life's most remarkable chapters are often written when we dare to believe in the extraordinary capabilities within our hearts.

Now go on and live your dreams!! You got this.
